FAMILY MINISTRY
From the nursery through senior year, we want every kid and student to know they belong here and are loved by God.

Nursery
Our nursery is a loving environment for children ages 0 through 5, open every Sunday morning from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Your children will sing songs, make crafts, color, play, learn Bible stories, and have a lot of fun.
The nursery is led by Camry Kuykendall and Casey Lemons, with Kira and Yvonne Ellington serving as substitutes. The east tower entrance is the closest way in with little ones.

Children’s Ministry
First United Methodist Church has a very active children’s program, and we’re constantly adding new programs as we continue to grow.
Join us each Sunday in the KidZone for Sunday School, with classes for kindergarten through 3rd grade and for 4th through 6th grade. Enjoy snacks, lessons, play time, crafts, and projects.
Every Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., any student in kindergarten through 6th grade is welcome to join us for our free after-school program. It’s held every Wednesday that McAlester Public Schools are in session, and we come together for games, crafts, and snacks. Bus transportation is available from Will Rogers Elementary, Puterbaugh Upper Elementary, Parker Middle School, and Frink Chambers School.
Throughout the Year
We host special events for families all year long:
- First Wednesday Dinners. On the first Wednesday of each month when school is in session, we welcome our after-school families to stay for dinner right after they pick up their students. Let us take care of dinner and the dishes, and you take the evening off.
- Trunk or Treat. Every Halloween evening we hand out loads of candy and provide hot dogs and a bounce house.
- Christmas. Our children’s groups carol at a local nursing home, then come back to the KidZone to be surprised by a visit from Santa with cookies and cocoa. We also invite families and the community to decorate cookies, visit our hot cocoa bar, and make a Christmas craft to hang on their tree.
- Easter Egg Hunt. At 2 p.m. on the Saturday before Easter, hunt eggs and exchange them for candy and bunny money to spend at the Bunny Store. Enjoy lemonade and cookies, ride the train, visit the petting zoo, and play yard games, fly kites, or blow bubbles with your family.
- Summer camps. We visit several wonderful summer camps with our students each summer. Scholarships are available to those who wish to attend.
- Vacation Bible School. Open to any student in kindergarten through 6th grade. We learn fun songs, play games and on a bounce house, make crafts, and enjoy fun snacks.
Watch our Facebook page for sign-up information and news about upcoming events.

Tweens Ministry
Our tween program is very active and growing each year.
Join us each Sunday in the KidZone for Sunday School for 4th through 6th grades, taught by Neva Mitchell. Enjoy snacks, crafts, play time, and a lesson.
Every Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., 4th through 6th grade students are welcome to join us for our free after-school program in The Loft, held every Wednesday that McAlester Public Schools are in session. We come together for games, crafts, snacks, and lessons. Bus transportation is available from Puterbaugh Upper Elementary, Parker, and Frink Chambers School.

Youth Ministry
Our youth programming is led by Rev. Amy Mitchell. We have a very active youth group that meets every Wednesday that McAlester Schools are in session, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. We encourage all youth in seventh through twelfth grade to join us.
Wednesday nights include dinner and fellowship in The Loft, which features a kitchen, multiple level meeting areas, video gaming, pool, ping pong, and many other activities. Outdoor recreation is also part of the evening as weather allows, including basketball, pickleball, four square, and sometimes even cooking dinner over our fire pit.
Throughout the year we add field trips, camps, mission projects, community outreach activities, and other chances to get together around town, including at local coffee shops.
Youth are also welcome to join us for Sunday School in the KidZone every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. If you have any questions, please ask. We hope to see you soon!
